      Real Hawaiian History

Your local pilot is a local expert in the history (real and legendary) of Hawai'i. So, as you fly over the many memorable locations included in this flight, your pilot will "talk story" with narratives about places like the Port of Kawaihae. During the 1800s, it was a busy whaling and trading port where the ship that brought the very first cattle and horses to the islands docked. Along the Southbound route, hear the story of the ever-infamous Captain Cook and his arrival in 1779. The natives welcomed him, believing him and his crew to be returning gods. When, a month later, the locals realized his mortal nature, he was swiftly executed. This, which is only part of the story, is just one of the many tales you can learn on your flight!

You’re Certain to Have a Great Time!

Every seat is a window seat so that you will have perfect views for picture-taking. If everyone in your group is over 12, choose the doors-off option for a floor-to-ceiling unobstructed view. The live (and lively) commentary by your guide/pilot will educate and amuse you as you fly the many memorable locations on the island. This tour is only half an hour, making it easy to fit into your Hawai'i visit, regardless of your other plans.

      Explanation

Come experience the Kona coast from a air! Soar through the skies on one of two routes that both offer stunning views for you to enjoy. On the Southbound route, fly from Kona Airport Southbound, past Honokōhau Bay, over Kona Town, Keauhou, to the famous Captain Cook while remaining comfortable and drinking in the sights from a guaranteed window seat. Meanwhile, on a Northbound route, you will see the famous Kua Bay, Kiholo Bay, Hāpuna Beach, and Kawaihae. You'll be amazed at the beauty of the landscape from the air.

Honokōhau, a historical park and home to many varieties of people that made use of its land, is also one of the best places on the islands to see sea turtles. These magnificent and peaceful animals are a common sight in the park, often basking in the sun's warm rays along the sandy shores. Don't forget to check out Keauhou Bay. It is the birthplace of the great King Kamehameha III, who was brought into the world here in 1814. Your Southbound trip won’t be complete without a flyover of Captain Cook’s monument. Hear the story of Cook’s heralded arrival and his ultimate demise.

Going Northbound, you will fly over the white sand beach at Kua Bay. Called Manini’owali Beach, this has been called one of the most beautiful beaches anywhere in the world. It lies secluded just to the north of Kona, easy enough to find but impossible to enjoy to the fullest without the aerial perspective that lets you see the whole beach and bay. Fly up to Kawaihae - a small port town along the Big Island of Hawai'i's northwestern Kohala Coast. During the 19th century, Kawaihae was a busy whaling and trading port. This port was also where the first cattle and horses to be brought to Hawai'i were kept when the ship that carried them docked.

The views will be remarkable regardless of these two incredible routes you choose!

      Frequently Asked Questions

      • Do People Get Sick? Should I Take Dramamine?

Although most guests enjoy our flights with no discomfort at all, some guests are prone to motion sickness. If this applies to you, we recommend taking Dramamine or a similar product. As with all medicines, consult with your doctor before use. All flights are sightseeing tours, and our pilots take pride in providing the smoothest, safest, and most enjoyable tours available.
      • Can I Talk To The Pilot During The Tour?

Yes, you can! Except during critical flight stages, such as take‐off and landing, feel free to ask a question, share impressions or comments, and engage with the others onboard. We provide inter‐communication between all occupants of the aircraft as an added bonus.
      • What Is Your Policy With Weather?

We fly when it is safe and enjoyable; if the pilot feels that we will not provide a good quality tour, the tour will be canceled. We will re-schedule based on availability or cancel if guest is unable to reschedule.
      • What Will We See On Our Private Helicopter Tour?

On these magnificent islands, there is much to be discovered by air. Certain of the countless remarkable features have, deservedly, garnered special interest and are most popular for aerial viewing. Weather permitting, our pilots will explore with you all of each island’s most famous geological features as outlined in our tour descriptions. Sometimes, wind and weather conditions necessitate a deviation from the usual tour route. In these instances, our pilots will attempt to show off other spectacular scenery not normally included on the tours, as all islands offer more hidden wonders to please the eye than can possibly be covered on a single flight. We guarantee to showcase spectacular scenery and breathtaking views that are not obtainable by car or trail.
      • What Are The Advantages Of A Helicopter Tour Versus An Airplane Tour?

Because of their agility and small turning radius, helicopters can fly you right into the heart of Hawai'i’s geological gems, such as the many lush valleys and sprawling canyons, while fixed‐wing aircraft have to circle above. Helicopters allow you a more intimate look at the terrain. Because our pilots can slow down and turn the aircraft around some famous highlights, you can take a more leisurely look and are given enhanced photo opportunities. Also, when was the last time you were in a helicopter?
      • Can I Choose My Seat?

In terms of seating arrangements, our first priority is safety, meaning we seat people in the best spot for the weight and balance of the aircraft. Our next consideration is where passengers would like to sit and what seat will be the best for their experience. We will be happy to accommodate your individual preferences, weight and balance permitting. Most couples like to sit together in the back of the helicopter so they can better share the experience, lean over and see out both sides, and point things out to one another. There is emotional value to sitting together, which for most people is higher than any added viewing value obtained from the front left seat. The open cabin design also allows rear passengers viewing ahead through the cockpit window.
      • What Is The Passenger Weight Limitation?

Total weight per person cannot exceed 285lbs and total group total cannot exceed 700lbs (weights are taken at check-in) If the individual and/or group weight limit is exceeded at check in, the flight will not be accommodated and are subject to the full price.
      • How Many People Can A Helicopter Hold?

For this flight, we have a maximum of three passengers.
