Real Hawaiian History
Your local pilot is a local expert in the history (real and legendary) of Hawaii. So, as you fly over the many memorable locations included in this flight, let your pilot regale you in all the narratives and thrills about places like the Port of Kawaihae. During the 1800s, it was a busy whaling and trading port where the ship that brought the very first cattle and horses to the islands docked. Along the Southbound route, hear the story of the ever infamous Captain cook and his arrival in 1779. The natives welcomed him, believing him and his crew to be returning gods. When, a month later, the locals realized his mortal nature, he was swiftly executed. This, which is only part of the story, is just one of the many tales you can learn on your flight!
You’re Certain to Have a Great Time!
Every seat is a window seat, so you will have perfect views for picture-taking. If your group is all over the age of 12, choose the doors-off option for a floor-to-ceiling unobstructed view. Explanation
Come experience the Kona coast from a air! Soar through the skies on one of two routes that both offer stunning views for you to enjoy. On the Southbound route, fly from Kona Airport Southbound, past Honokōhau Bay, over Kona Town, Keauhou to the famous Captain Cook, all while remaining comfortable and getting to drink in the sights from a guaranteed window seat. Meanwhile, on a Northbound route, you will get to see the famous Kua Bay, Kiholo Bay, Hapuna Beach, and Kawaihae. You'll be amazed at the beauty of the landscape from the air.
Honokōhau, a historical park and home to many varieties of people that made use of its land, is also one of the best places on the isles to see sea turtles. These magnificent and peaceful animals are a common sight in the park, often basking in the warm rays of the sun along the gentle shores. Don't forget to check out Keauhou Bay. It is the birthplace of the great King Kamehameha III, who was brought into the world here in 1814. Your Southbound trip won’t be complete without a flyover of Captain Cook’s monument. Hear the story of Cook’s heralded arrival, and his ultimate demise.
Going Northbound, you will fly over the white sand beach at Kua Bay. Called Manini’owali Beach, this has been called one of the most beautiful beaches anywhere in the world. It lies secluded just to the north of Kona, easy enough to find but impossible to enjoy to the fullest without the aerial perspective that lets you truly see the whole of the beach and bay. Fly all the way up to Kawaihae - a small port town along the Big Island of Hawaii's northwestern Kohala Coast. During the 19th century, Kawaihae was a busy whaling and trading port. This port was also the place where the first cattle and horses to be brought to Hawaii were kept when the ship that carried them docked.
Whichever of these two incredible routes you choose, the views will be remarkable!
