Departs from Kona
Be sure to check in about 45 minutes before departure at the Kona Airport. This thrilling 2 hour tour begins with a flyover of the Kona coffee district and the slopes of Mauna Loa. In the prime conditions of the Kona coffee district, hundreds of small farms are able to produce over 2.5 million pounds of coffee each year. From there, your pilot will follow the coast and give you incredible vantage points of towering sea cliffs, crashing waves and one of the world’s only green sand beaches. After that, the terrain changes dramatically as you are treated to views of the crater that was formerly the Pu’u ‘O’o Vent of the Kilauea Volcano.
The east side of the Big Island is completely covered in blankets of lush green jungle. The reason the vegetation is so thick here is because this region sees over 130 inches of rain per year. As you might imagine, waterfalls and rushing rivers are plentiful in this region. In the middle of it all lies the colorful town of Hilo. Following the breathtaking Kohala Coast will take you through the steep walls and sharp ridges of the Kohala Valleys. Before returning to Kona, you will be able to catch some last glimpses of the pristine white sand beaches along the coast.
